LA goes Scandinavian, A Investigative Newsletter On Luxury, And Eggs Laid For Instagram
For those who are new here, welcome to A Few Good Mentions, a weekly (or so) toss-up of five random, share-worthy things I might come across, see, read, do, or eat in a given week. You can find me on Instagram, and my website, which I try my best to update with latest published works. Ok, let’s go!

Ok, so there are pricey organic, free-range eggs laid by heirloom hens…and then there are Cacklebean eggs, a whole other breed of fancy ovum sold by the dozen. I first learned of them via this Air Mail story, and now I can’t stop wondering if Cacklebeans all they’re cracked up to be. If anyone’s been to the UK lately, and can testify to the worthiness of these made-for-Instagram eggs, and their orangey-red sunset-hued yolks, please let me know!

I am SO excited for LACMA’s new exhibition on Scandinavian design in the US! Aside from visiting friends in Cali, now I’m even more psyched to book a flight out west when the temperature here in NYC starts to head south.

Chanel is discreetly dipping its toe in the film production biz; Harper’s Bazaar is coming to France; and Richemont and LVMH are in a heated court battle over the trademarking of 'Vendôme' for its use on various luxury goods. If a single one of those items caught your attention (talking to you, fashion peeps), then you may want to check out Glitz, a new investigative newsletter focused on the luxury sector. Based in Paris, the news largely leans French, and the content is currently somewhat limited, as it only recently launched, but given how secretive the luxury industry has managed to remain all these decades, there’s potential for some really good exposés.

Because I’m so hopelessly in love with my decade-old, multicolored, brushstroke-patterned duffle bag by Kipling, I’ve opted to retire the thing before it goes to shreds. I’ll still use it for quick trips, but for longer hauls, I recently picked up a new, moss-green duffle from Away’s F.A.R. (For All Routes) collection, which is finally available for purchase. I didn’t think I could say this about a dumb green travel sack, but I LOVE it. It doubles as a backpack—if you’re into the gorp-y hiker look (I get it, it has its usefulness when it comes to hefty loads…)—but I especially commend the generous zipper clearance, and how the bag practically lays flat while you load it up with all your stuff.

Not a usual “mention,” but alas— A few weekends ago, I cried harder and longer than I had in a good long while in the company of a near-stranger. I was letting go of something I’d been carrying for well over five years (truthfully, the hurt and pain from that time probably traces back to something far more deeply-rooted). When the tears started, she didn’t rush to comfort or calm me, she didn’t tell me to breathe or count, or get it together. She didn’t say anything. She simply held that space for me, and waited as I let go, and crumpled and folded inward, and then somewhat astonishingly unfurled and expanded back into my breath—on my own. Besides the awesomeness of that release (which is actually how I did get it together), I felt a deluge of gratitude for this person who just. let. me. cry. So, an intention of sorts: I want to be better about doing the same for others. ❤️
