Ms. at 50, Outdoorsy Travel Gear (But Make It Chic), And Popping Not Stopping

This summer marks the 50th anniversary of Ms. magazine, which, at this particular moment especially, feels quite bittersweet, yet also entirely relevant when it comes to the debating the veracity of what was once an old Virginia Slims slogan: “You’ve come a long way, baby.” Have we? Here’s what Gloria Steinem and several other Ms. founders (and writers) had to say on the matter.

Ahhhhh, I wish Away’s forthcoming new line of travel gear, dubbed FAR (For All Routes) were available in time for my trip to Italy next week. I’m not exactly anticipating any strenuous treks over mountains or through any other rugged terrain, but sometimes I appreciate a good outdoorsy duffel for its lack of pretentiousness (and preciousness). The minimal silhouettes and bold, solid colors of this range check all my requisite style boxes too.

What first brought me to this article wasn’t the headline, but actually the author Rachel Cargle’s Instagram post and note pertaining the headline. The LA Times initially published Cargle’s op-ed piece as “Being Child-Free Lets Me Live My Most Productive Life,” when Cargle had actually intended for it to be, “Being Child-Free Lets Me Live My Most Authentic Life.” It’s quite ironic—and sadly speaks volumes—that the platform responsible for publishing Cargle’s commentary around leading a child-free life felt the need to bolster her choice with some layer of work ethic: putting the reader’s comfort level before the truthful expression of the author. (NB: The LA Times has since changed the title.)

Oh man, you guys, you know I love my popcorn…and Lesser Evil’s newest flavor is positively habit-forming (as in, I’ve bought a bag every three days since I first came across it). Given that this tangy-sweet combo of cherry and lime is a collaboration with RIND snacks, is on a limited-run, I’m not mad about it!
