Hope everyone had a great weekend! This feels like such a full one, so I’m just going to skip any and all fanfare, and just open the gates.

My mom’s been down south, busy helping out a sister with her first newborn, and so I thought I was delivering a surprise treat when I sent her some video footage of Joni Mitchell’s surprise appearance at last week’s Newport Jazz Festival…to which she promptly responded by sending me this. I should have known: tried-and-true Joni Mitchell fans do not sleep on their songbird.

Growing up, Kate Moss was always my favorite supermodel, though I couldn’t ever explain why. Looking back on it, I think it’s just that she was super-skinny and I was always super-skinny, so I must have felt some assurance and self-confidence in knowing that I didn’t need to stuff my bra to be pretty. What’s remarkable is to think that throughout all those years of admiring her, it was only her image—portrayed in countless unique editorials and ad campaigns. I’d never really heard her speak, let alone more than a few words, until this morning. Here, Moss shares her eight desert island music tracks, with plenty of colorfully vivid fodder in-between. Also, when she says she looks out for her models who are signed to her modeling agency, I actually believe it. And I think more former models should be top candidates for running talent agencies.

I came upstate to a garden bursting with basil, and plants firing out rounds of summer squash like torpedoes. I plan on sautéeing up some of this, and most definitely this (based on the reviews alone), and tossing together some version of this while I’m up here.

WHAT is going on with the Barbiecore trend? Veronique Hyland has some thoughts and insight—the best take I’ve read yet, although I don’t think we’ll really have a more definite sense (with depth and perspective) until the pink parade has passed.

Some potential purchases I can’t stop staring at right now: This awesome printed poncho by Rainkiss, a cheeky and fun Amsterdam-based label that uses polyester made from recycled plastic (CB and I think they’d be perfect for our pseudo-Scandi upstate bicycle gang). The only reason I haven’t clicked to purchase yet is because I’m also debating this one, this one, or this one (Purchase potential: 98%). Also, these embellished flower candles give me major Dolce & Gabbana vibes, but without the muck of controversy (Purchase Potential: 76%). I’m also very much on the fence about these sporty mash-up clogs (Purchase Potential: 50%), which I only happened to come across via Google after seeing Kaia Gerber clunking around the city in these (Purchase Potential: -3%).
No lovelier words ever before Substacked than “pseudo-Scandi upstate bicycle gang”…I’m in😬
